Our club provides multiple pathways to participation in surf lifesaving through training and education each season.
To become a surf lifesaver you will need to complete your Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC).
The SRC provides participants with skills and knowledge of surf awareness, aquatic rescue operations and resuscitation in order to participate in lifesaving operations and act in the role of Water Safety Personnel.
The Bronze Medallion course incorporates the SRC and provides participants with the skills and knowledge in order to be able to participate in Surf Life Saving patrol operations. This is the core award to be a surf lifesaver in Australia.
A basic level of swim fitness is required to commence the course: you must demonstrate the ability to swim unaided a distance of 400m in 9 minutes for the Bronze and 200m in 5 minutes for the SR
Courses are run at Forster SLSC over the season to train new Volunteer Lifesavers and enhance the skills of our existing Lifesavers.
You must be a financial member of Forster SLSC, satisfy any prerequisites and register to join a course. Our courses generally run one weeknight and a Sunday morning over over the course of 6 weeks. This is followed by a compulsory assessment day.
If you would like to become a patrolling member of Forster Surf Life Saving Club please register your interest and we will forward you information on our next available courses.
